Title: KOS Checker (for Providence)
Post by: YF [TN-NT] Rounon Dax on 2014 January 11, 00:06:29
Many of you know the KOS lookup tool, that was developed by SOUND. With them being KOS, this tool stopped working for obvious reason.

To keep this service alive, a friend of mine and I started to develop our own KOS Lookup tool. At first we tried to keep it in our corporation for some testing, but there seems to be a desperate need for it also in the alliance. So, here we go.

Download: http://terra-nanotech.de/download/providence-kos-check (http://terra-nanotech.de/download/providence-kos-check)

Just download the archive, extract it to a folder of your choice and run the tool after your client hast started. The KOS Checker will automatically watch all of your chat channels you are currently in. To perform a KOS check, you only have to type xxx Pilotname in a chat and the KOS Checker will tell you if the pilot is KOS or not.

Features:
> Clean overview of a pilots KOS status
> Ping on KOS pilot
> Hotdropper Warning

Things we are planning for the future:
> Mark known hotdropper - implemented
> Sound Options - implemented
> Local cache to speed up the things a little bit - implemented

To add a chat channel to the monitored list from the tool, simply chose File -> Reload Logs from the tools menu.

If you have any issues start the debug-version (comes within the archive) and paste me the output of the console window, that is started with the debug-version.

Keep in mind, at the moment this tool is an early ALPHA version, we are working at the moment on. I will post here any updates we are making, so you can always update to  the latest version.

Fly safe.

In order to get the tool reading your log files, they have to be logged to a file from your EVE client.
Press ESC-key and go to the "Audio & Chat" tab. Here you will find the "Chat" section on the right side. Check here the "Log chat to file" box. Restart your client and start the KOS Checker tool.

Oh wow, awesome job. Tested and works perfectly. Should be mandatory to YF pilots!

Also is there a way to increase the sound of the ping? Or even select what sound to play? Its a bit low on my machine and might be lost over other sounds, would be great to be able to select a sound or have some options.

Also a different ping on known HD would be amazing! :D

Ya, to mark the known hotdropper is a thing we are working on at the moment. Good idea with the separate sound for them, I take it to our list.

My corp is using this tool for quite some time now. It works very good and is a lot faster than the old KOS checker.
It would really be nice if one could choose between a variety of alert sounds. The red alert klaxon from the Star Trek franchise would be a perefect addition for example ;)

Using it too and awsome work!
Glad you put it up for public "testing"!

Especially the volume of the sound should be either increased or come with three settings (off/normal/loud).
With different sounds, why not have a default sound that comes with the tool like right now and if you want to you can use a local mp3 file or something like that....
Not sure if that is possible?

On our list for the next update:
> Sound Options for the ping on KOS (low/normal/loud)
> Local cache to speed up the things a little bit
> Local debug function for better extraction of the debug log, if needed.

I think the tools serves a very important role and that ALL pilots in Provi should be using it.  I propose that each account using it sent a donation (5M / account) to Rounon Dax for recognition and thanks for this work.

Good call for the volume option! The ping you selected to use is nice but doesn't cut through comms chatter and game sounds too well... Volume should help that!

I've been running the app for a few days and it is really nice! Current Corp and alliance for the pilot would be nice too and if possible, the KOS corp for kos by last corp pilots!

Great work yet again rounon (and your mystery friend!)

This is a fantastic tool.  Also love the update with the sound options.

I did notice a small bug today it seems to only bind to 1 account through the logs.  Im guessing that its looking at the Listener and binding to the first one it sees.  So if I start my hauling alt first with clean logs then he is the only one it will work for in a Chat window thats not shared with both alts.  If I do the reverse then that is still true.  So it seems it will only work reliably for 1 account at a time.

Not sure if that can be fixed or not.

Thank you for all you hard work on this tool and everything else you do for the Alliance.

File -> Reload Logs should help you out.

We cannot watch all logfiles. This would produce a heavier load on your computer and slowing down the tool itself. So we decided to grab the last changed logfiles at the startup, with the option to reload this list.

Thats possible, I have it on our list, but with a low priority for now.
Don't know how useful this information in a not KOS case is, but it will be provided in a future update.

Our main priority is to find some errors in the KOS logic of the tool. So if you find a pilot the tool marks with the wrong KOS status, let me know. Thats a security aspect we have to sort out first before we implement comfort features. One if this security features we are looking at, is a hotdropper database we are working on currently.

So in the next version you will be able to rightclick on a KOS pilot in the tools main window and set him as known hotdropper. This information will be send to a remote database the KOS tool is syncing every 15 Minutes with. So, we hope, hotdroppers will be marked with a little cyno icon directly after their name on the next check and a different warning sound is playing. Marking as hotdropper will only working if the checked entity is a pilot, not on alliance or corp.

This is really nice! I think I might have a list of known hotdroppers which I'll try and find. Being able to mark hotdroppers in this way is really cool!

Saeglotakk just posted about this on the Citadel forums, it looks cool, thanks.

I would have thought twice about developing a KOS Checker myself if I knew this was in the works  :-[.
http://forum.cva-eve.org/index.php?topic=4805.0 (http://forum.cva-eve.org/index.php?topic=4805.0) or https://bitbucket.org/louisburton/kosoverlay/downloads/KOSOverlay-1.1-Win64.exe (https://bitbucket.org/louisburton/kosoverlay/downloads/KOSOverlay-1.1-Win64.exe)

The sync'ed DB for hotdroppers looks cool. Is there a reason it is sync'ed rather than hosted? If the location it was sync'ed from offered an API I'd definitely be tempted to call this also if allowed!... O:D
Title: Re: KOS Checker (for Providence)
Post by: YF [TN-NT] Rounon Dax on 2014 January 16, 17:49:19
Theres a very simple reason for that its synced. Performance.
So it will be only once ever15 minutes touched to sync with the tool and not on every request to check a pilot. The sync will get all the data from the remote database and store it in a local sqlite db for the tool. So the tool has only to ask the local one if a red in a hotdropper or not.

Yes, we have an API for this, but its not public yet, its a work in progress right now and a feature we have to implement in our tool.

I was asked by my "mystery friend" - thats what Seag was calling him - to post a little statement here.

Quote
My i introduce me, i'm the Mysterious Friend.

While Rounon Dax is the logic brain behind this whole project,
i'm the codemonkey, hacking the stuff into a machine readable format.

It is great to see how well our work is accepted and i think we could improve it even more in the future.

As i don't play EVE ( maybe someday in the future, if the intergalactic 40 Earth-Hour day is introduced ) there may be some bug's here and there in new releases, as i could not test it well and Rounon is, well u know it, pretty busy with all kind of things.

If you wan't to support us, give us some virtual money ;) You know how to get your donations into Rounon's bag. If you want to give me something, ask him for my steam account, i'm always looking for some new _LINUX_ games there. Maybe you see something in a sell ;)

Oook,
the code monkey

What windows version you have?
You drag and drop the names from local, or copy and paste?
IS you EVE Client writing chatlogs? (See options window (http://yulaifederation.net/forum/index.php?topic=4282.msg23018#msg23018) in your EVE client)

Ok, next idea.
How many logfiles do you have in your log directory?

If there are to many, maybe we have a problem here to scan through that many files to find the relevant logs.

Alternative OS?
Linux? It's definitely working.
The files you will find here (http://git.lokis-chaos.de/general-projects/providencekoslookup/tree/v1.3.2 (http://git.lokis-chaos.de/general-projects/providencekoslookup/tree/v1.3.2)) and to compile it under a linux you have to do the following.

Download the source as zip (Download in linked page top right)
Unzip the archive
change to the new directory and run the following four steps.
Code: [Select]
mkdir build
cd build
cmake ..
make

Requirements:
QT4
CMake
Phonon

Thats all. I also use this tool under a linux environment. For Mac OS it may be similar.

If you have any trouble with a message that there is a .dll file missing, close the running application, deinstall it and reinstall the new one as a clean install.

This issue may be occur on Windows 8.

In theory, the tool should compile under mac. But as i don't have a OSX testsystem, i have never done it. At the moment, there is missing one Path Information, that prevents the tool from running. Could you please tell me the full path to the EVE Logfiles on OSX with wine?

Until we have a working OSX version, you should be able to install the windows executable through wine.

I was going to create a issue on your GitLab but it doesn't look like there is open registration.

For Windows it appears that the path to the log files is hard coded; I use network redirected user directories, so the tool was not finding and reading the files.  As soon as I created a symlink under c:\Users\myuser\Documents to the mapped network share, the tool worked.

Is it possible to allow the path to the log files to be a user configurable option?

Good evening,

I have downloaded the file a few different times and I can't get it to work.

Off the first post I have downloaded version1.5.0

I have followed the instructions for the Log Chat to File box is checked and restarted everything.

Anything other information you need from me to help me get this to work?

Please check how many log files you have. Windows unfortunately has an issue with handling many files and it will slow down the process to find the right log files for the tool to watch.

I just removed all chat logs from the folder.

Launched both the Kos Checker and Eve

type xxx and drag a name into the chat channel and hit enter, nothing happens. Nothing shows in kos checker window.

Try 'File' > 'Reload Logs' - I always do this whenever I open KOS checker just in case.

i guess the KOS checker looks for existing logfiles, but if you start the checker first, these files just don't exist. You have to use the 'reload Logs' option or just log in in eve first, then start the KOS checker.

At the moment we are facing some issues with the CVA KOS API and our caching server. Our caching server can't get any connect to the CVA API. We are in contact with the CVA Tech admin and looking for a solution here.

For this time, unfortunately, the KOS Checker won't work. I keep you all updated as soon as we have a solution ready.

Thank you for your patience.

I have to admit that I am not sure since when we have this issue. But at least for the last three days.

Short Update:
KOS Checker is working again, the tech admin from CVA - xHjfx his name - did his magic to solve the firewall issues we had, big thanks to him. Feel free to donate him some ISK for his work, he is a very busy man, keeping all the CVA services alive we use daily.

Yeah I am also. It was like that for the CVA forums too. I think it has to do with the Auth system. The CVA forums work for me now so give it time I am sure it will all sort itself out.

Is it bad that I still have the -7- KOS checker?

Is it bad that I still have the -7- KOS checker?

Someone not long ago in my corp used the -7- kos checker and proceeded to report 20 reds in XHQ. Most of which were YF members and normal blues~

I always find Dax's tool to be very good if you're ever in the position of sifting through your corporation standings and have a good few hundred to kos check.
